This is a great case study! From the ecological perspective, I called it as “Platform Genidentity” which means a platform changes its surface but still keeps same deep ecological structure of user experience.

For Netflix, the surface are DVD-by-Mail and TV-on-Demand, the deep ecological structure of user experience is Watching videos.
